Straffan braced for 100,000 golf fans as Irish Open tees off at K Club

Up to 100,000 golf fans are expected to attend the Irish Open which starts at the K-Club in Straffan this morning.

Top Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is hoping for his first win in his home tournament which is also hosted by his charity foundation.

Kildare Failte, Kildare County Council and local business and community organisations have also organised local events in nearby towns this weekend.

The Open Clane Festival starts on Friday at 6.45pm, with marching bands, singing, music, dance and face painting in the Church plaza.

On Saturday, there will be an Open Day at the Wonderful Barn in Leixlip.

There will also be a Vintage Car display, Face Painting, Pony rides, Treasure Hunt and Best Dressed Lady and Gent.
